Lance Blockley is Managing Director of The Initiatives Group, a consulting firm specialising in payments. He has advised issuers, acquirers, third-party processors, technology providers and payment associations in addressing many of the financial sector’s most significant issues. He has over 35 years experience in senior management and consulting in the UK, USA, Asia and Australia.
Lance has led the consulting team on a number of industry-wide assignments, including the successful removal of signature (PIN@POS) on card payments in Australia in August 2014, the culmination of two and a half years work across multiple stakeholder groups.
Prior to establishing the firm in 2013, Lance ran global payments specialist Edgar, Dunn & Company in Asia-Pacific for over 10 years, also acting for a term as global Managing Director.
Lance holds B.A. and M.A. degrees in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University, England and an M.B.A. from IMD, Switzerland. He is a Fellow of both the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Chartered Management Institute (UK).
Director - Consulting
David Ojerholm is Director - Consulting at The Initiatives Group. He has over 30 years’ experience in Financial Services through advising, implementing and managing consumer and merchant loyalty, preference and payment programs on behalf of issuers, acquirers, international and domestic payment schemes, airlines and retailers.
In his career, he has been responsible for businesses in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and Australia, as well as numerous ground breaking initiatives in the payment card loyalty space. His focus is always on actionable outcomes that make a difference for clients and partners.
David has a Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing) from University of NSW, an MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management and is a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Ian Jamieson is a Director and an Associate Consultant at The Initiatives Group. He has over 35 years experience in senior management and consulting in the USA, Asia and Australia.
Ian has provided strategic marketing and business advice to the senior management of clients in diverse industries including financial services, IT & telecommunications. Clients have included large Australian based corporations, many Fortune 500 companies, and leading businesses in Asian markets such as Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand and Korea.
Ian’s forte is understanding how the principles of marketing can be applied to a company’s overall business strategy, building competitive advantage and sustainable superior financial results.
Ian has a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in Marketing from the University of New South Wales (Sydney). He is a Fellow of the Australian Marketing Institute and a Certified Practising Marketer (CPM). Ian has also attended a number of Senior Executive post graduate courses, including two at the leading graduate management school, IMD, in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Michael Ebstein is an Associate Director of The Initiatives Group. Mike is also the principal of MWE Consulting, which has completed a wide variety of credit and debit card assignments, including product and distribution review, card market entry strategies, portfolion acquisition and divestment strategies, assistance and input with strategic planning, product development planning, card workshops, business modelling, market research, reward program reviews, expert witness and market analysis.
The monthly MWE Card Reports have become recognised as "the" source for key industry metrics, analysis and comments in Australia and New Zealand.
Prior to founding MWE Consulting in 1999, he had 11 years as General Manager marketing at ANZ Global Cards Division of ANZ Bank.
David Camilleri is a Senior Consultant at The Initiatives Group. He is a payments professional with over 7 years’ experience in consulting, product management and development experience in the banking and financial technology in Africa and Australia.
David has managed cross-functional teams on a number of payment initiatives, including contactless and mobile acquiring and a payment platform across 12 African country markets.
Prior to joining the firm, David held management positions in Merchant Acquiring and Corporate Payments at Barclays Africa and Standard Bank, and consulting positions at PSP Icon.
David holds a BSocSci (Hons) degree in Change Management from University of Cape Town, South Africa and is in the process of completing an MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management, at the University of New South Wales.
Mitchell Hu is a Senior Consultant at The Initaitives Group with over six years' experience in financial services. As an experienced payment professional, he has worked with issuers, acquirers, merchants, payment schemes, technology providers and industry bodies on strategy, pricing and product development.
Prior to joining the firm in 2013, Mitchell worked as a Senior Research Analyst providing business intelligence and benchmarking for banks and other financial institutions.
Mitchell holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of New South Wales and a Graduate Diploma in Quantitative Finance from the University of Technology Sydney.
